Do you feel the United States Census is an accurate way of determining how to distribute federal funds on infrastructure and services such as schools, hospitals, public work projects, etc.? Do you think obtaining the demographics of our population is necessary?

If they took the amount of money it costs to do the census and poured it into education and healthcare, it'd be a lot more useful. This time around all it asked was # of people and ages and race, nothing about income or anything that would help anything except for # of state reps. Big deal! In this economy, it's a shame they didn't rethink, especially since they spent millions on advertising and sending reminders. While it may be cheaper than using the door-to-door people, if you sent it just once with a notice that if you filled it out and returned it you'd get a $25 check in the mail, I bet everyone would do it, and it'd be cheaper.

That's how much the federal government estimates it will spend on the 2010 census for each person counted, or $14.7 Billion dollars to count people. How absurd. Why we can't have in place a local, regional and state count that feeds information to the federal government is beyond me. While some might argue that data would be falsified in order to benefit local communities, I would say the benefit of jailing those individuals would clean out the corruption. Besides, do you think the Acorn employees will not be falsifying their data as they do already?
I want my forty-six dollars back.

It's a "Crock"... As long as there are groups like 'ACORN' being allowed to falsify data without any fear of retribution, accuracy will NEVER be obtained!!!

The US Census is only for Congressional representation.
No, to the first question. Taking money by force is theft. Taxes are still taking by force and is nothing more than theft by statute.
No, not necessary, It is valuable but not when done with tax money and fines or imprisonment for those that wish not to give their private information.

Why should money be taken from everybody and used by politicians in Washington to consolidate their power by making pork barrel deals with it? If Washington didn't take the money from people to start with, they wouldn't have the task of distributing it... duh.

I think it's good to know our demographics. I think the data can be put to some good use.
